I wrote this novella a long time ago, and until recently it has only been available as a free download for people who sign up to my newsletter. But with encouragement from many of my readers, I decided to publish it on Amazon (Kindle version only) – and offer one of my other books as reward for joining my mailing list.
White Lilac is a dual timeline historical novella about the choices we make in love. The main character, Rachel Rivers, moves into a flat and becomes intrigued by a watercolour painting that has been left on the wall – a portrait of a Victorian woman called Emily.
As Rachel tries to find out more about Emily, she faces problems with her own relationships: her boyfriend David, who is pressurising her for more commitment, and her best friend, Diane, who seems strangely elusive. As the main story unfolds, we also view Emily’s diaries and see her tragic story develop as a backdrop to Rachel’s. It seems that Emily is trying to reach out to Rachel from the past, but can Rachel make the right choices, or are the odds too much against her?
